Free RV Camping Information

Do you enjoy driving in an RV on a cross-country drive? If you like to go everywhere you can in your RV, you are always scouting out the next free RV camp. Instead of paying high entrance fees for parking the RV, there are many places to park free of charge. It’s not outdoor camping in the usual sense, but if you don’t mind spending the night in a large parking lot, there are many cheap or free RV camping lots.

Wal Mart Provides Free RV Camping

If you’re on the road and searching for free RV camping that is safe, stop by the first Wal Mart that you see. It is Wal Mart’s company policy to let RV campers to stay free of charge in Wal Mart parking lots. You can go grocery shopping to stock up on supplies, sit down for a hot meal in a restaurant, and buy those extra towels that you wanted. A big plus is that the majority of Wal Marts have security personnel around at all times. While their job is not to protect you specifically, you will feel safer just knowing that they are there in the event something happens.

Fraternal Lodges for Free RV Camping
Elks Club Lodges offer free parking for RVs.  These lodges typically have a restaurant on site, and schedule fun activities like bull roasts or dances. If you want to socialize and have a good time, this can be the ideal place to park your RV for the night. However, you are required to be an Elks Lodge member in order to to take advantage of their activities.

Advice For Free RV Camping

Some establishments such as certain roadside restaurants and rest stops will allow RVs to park free. If you use free RV camping, there are some courtesy guidelines to abide by if you do. If a company is allowing you to stay free, you should do your best to reciprocate that kindness. The best way to accomplish this is to make a point of spending some money in the establishment. If you are parking over night at a Flying J rest stop, for example, make certain that you at least eat dinner or breakfast in the restaurant. You should also buy your gas there. You will be helping them to make free RV parking available for other people just like you.

Portable Camp Stove

Unless you are going to eat all of your camping meals out of a can, you will need to include a portable camp stove and some food that you can prepare quickly and easily. In order to keep your energy level high for your uphill hikes, you will need to maintain a good diet during your camping trip.  Using a portable camp stove, you will be better able to eat nutritious meals and maintain your energy level. The camp stove can also serve as a heater if the weather becomes cold, as temperatures can change suddenly at high altitudes.

Getting Ready For Your Trip

Camping in the mountains is a lot of hard work. It is much different from RV camping where you can bring along anything you want. Camping in the mountains involves plenty of hiking on mountain trails. For this, you will need to keep your backpacks as light as possible. Portable camp stoves do add weight, but you can find them in smaller sizes that you can easily stash in your backpack.

If you are camping by yourself, or if you go with a partner, you will not need a portable camp stove that is big enough for a family. A two burner portable camp stove will do. You can also buy two single burner portable camp stoves, and let your partner carry one of them. Sharing the load will make your life easier especially when you start climbing uphill.

In addition to bringing a portable camp stove on your camping vacation, don’t forget to bring equipment like sleeping bags, cooking equipment, first aid kits, a GPS device, and your cell phone.  The GPS device is invaluable to help keep you from straying too far off of your path. A cell phone is also a good idea to have packed in your gear. If an accident or emergency happens, you will have a way to call for help. If you are going to be isolated from the rest of the world, it makes sense to have at least one way to connect to it if circumstances are urgent. Accidents and emergencies happen when we least expect them to occur. With this additional important gear, you will be prepared to handle any emergency that happens.

Remember to Take the Camping Cooking Equipment

Many camping purists will go on a camping trip with nothing more than a basic tent and a sleeping bag. They prefer to experience nature as far away from the conveniences of modern life as possible. They like their camping trip to be as primitive as possible. Most people choose to carry a few modern conveniences with them into the wilderness on a camping trip.  For them a night under a canopy of stars is much more enjoyable with some camping equipment nearby. Popular items at the top of the camping supply list are typically the camping cooking equipment. Camping cooking equipment provides the means to cook what you want, when you want it. Ready-to-eat meals can grow boring after the first day. With cooking equipment, you can prepare and enjoy a wide variety of meals while enjoying an outdoor camping trip.

Varieties of Camping Equipment

Camping cooking equipment comes in a wide range of makes, models, and types. For cooking and heating, a family can take grills, stoves, and ovens fueled with propane, carry their water supplies in canteens, and eat and drink using plates, bowls, and utensils. The camping experience is much easier if you can afford this array of camping equipment. When dinnertime comes, toss a couple of steaks on the grill, and soon you’ll be eating a camping dinner fit for a king. Fire up the coffee pot, and enjoy a hot cup of coffee as you sit looking up at the stars. This luxury does come with a price. Camping equipment is heavy. If you plan to bring several pieces of camping cooking equipment with you, consider the distance you might have to carry them.

Carrying Camping Equipment

The easiest way to handle heavy camping equipment is to park the car right next to the camping spot. It is possible to use the car battery as a power source for camping cooking equipment. Then there are the die-hard campers who want to hike in a distance to find a perfect camping spot. In this case, carrying a large amount of heavy camping gear is not an ideal situation.

Any camping trip is more enjoyable with camping cooking equipment.  If you don’t want to leave all of the modern conveniences of home behind, think ahead about where you will want to set up your camp. Setting a camping equipment budget, and planning on how close you will be able to access your camping site with your car will be a factor in how much camping equipment you will want to carry.
