Sunday, August 30th, 2009

There is a lot of enjoyment when you go on a camping trip because it allows you and your family members an infrequent chance to get together. Most people use a tent for shelter on their camping vacation, and an RV is a popular option. However, there is little reason to worry too much about the activities you will do on a camping trip. It is actually better to stop and learn a few things about basic camping safety tips in order to enjoy the trip. By knowing and following a few simple camping safety tips, you will create a memorable experience for the whole family.

Commonsense Rules the Day

Most of the camping safety tips are common sense ideas, and a reminder of them never hurts. This way you will less likely forget these tips, and put you or your family in a dangerous situation. An example of a common sense camping safety tip is to know if the national forest you plan to set up camp allows the use of camping stoves. If fire danger is high, you need to know this.

Another example of a common sense camping safety tip is to avoid the use of camping cooking equipment in windy or rainy weather conditions. You should also know to cook only if you have enough light. Most importantly, you should not leave cooking equipment unattended for any amount of time.

You should insist on following camping safety tips ensuring a three-foot safety zone around the cooking area.  Adults should enforce the boundary, and not allow children to be within three feet of the cooking area.  Do not allow the cooking area to become a dumping ground for paper plates, cups, paper towels, and other materials that are combustible. Similarly, clear away dry leaves or pine needles from the area you want to use as a cooking spot.

Another important camping safety tip is to buy fire-resistant camping tents that are UL listed. Set up your tent away from the cooking area. Use only battery powered lanterns or flashlights for light, and build any campfire downwind and away from your tents. Learn some of these simple camping safety tips, and you will make the camping vacation a safe one for your entire family.

Camping Equipment at Bargain Prices

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Camping vacations can be one of the least expensive vacations you will ever experience. Camping has become a high-tech vacation for many people, and they spend large sums of money on expensive camping equipment.  This can turn an inexpensive vacation into a budget nightmare if you are not paying attention. Camping equipment can be quite expensive, and it is also difficult to resist spending money on great camping equipment. How can you resist a portable camping oven and a stove, a grill, and pots and pans? What about that state-of-the-art tent and the modern sleeping bags? Before long you could spend more than the flight you decided not to book this year. Even the boat cruise you dreamt about is less expensive. You do not need to spend a lot of money for camping equipment if you know where to shop, and how.

Used Camping Equipment?

Did you know you can buy used camping equipment? You can find used camping equipment almost anywhere. You can find used camping equipment for sale on EBay. Look in the Yellow Pages and you will find stores that specialize in used camping gear. If you feel funny about using equipment that was used by other people, there are other ways to find brand new camping gear at discount prices.

Overstocked Items

Many stores carry so much overhead that they offer camping equipment at closeout prices to make room for newer stock. If you find out one of the items you want to buy is out of stock, ask about the one or two identical items that are on floor display. Camping stores will often sell these to you at an even deeper discount because the display item is the only one left.  This is one way to find inexpensive and good quality camping gear.

Second-Hand Camping Equipment

Ask your friends and family if they, or someone they know, have old camping equipment they want to unload. If they never use the equipment, and at first seem reluctant to part with it, offer them a small sum of money for it. It is still cheaper than if you bought it in the store!

Always remember that it is not about the amount of camping equipment you have; it is about spending quality time with your family. If you can afford only cheaper equipment, then these recommendations will help you find it. Now get out there, be with your family, and enjoy Mother Nature!

Now go have fun as your reconnect with nature and your family.
