How to Make a Good Camping Food List

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Writing out a good camping food list may seem simple, but you need to think about some important information before you begin this task. You’ll want to think of some tasty camping food recipes to enjoy your trip to the fullest. In order to do this, include a wide variety of foods on the camping food list.

Are you one of the many people who believe that camping food consists only of canned foods and other non-perishable items? The good news is that this is not the truth. If you use some common sense, you will be able to make a list of almost any kind of food you desire to take with you on your camping trip.

Getting Started

There are some things to consider when you start writing your camping food list.  Chief among them is to know if you or anyone in your group is allergic to any type of food. Also, determine if there is a food that none of the people in your group likes to eat. This makes your task a little easier at the beginning because you have already narrowed down your choices.

Make a meal plan for every day of the camping trip. Knowing what you will be eating each day makes the camping food list a breeze to make. You also minimize wasted food, and bring only foods you plan to eat. This will save you time and effort. As you make your meal plan, don’t forget to add some variety to keep your meals from getting boring or predictable.

It’s fine to have the same meal two or three times on a weeklong camping trip. However, with proper planning you will know that you are not wasting any food, and you will have the ability to switch the meals on your schedule. Space them out so that you are not eating the same thing twice in a row.

Specialty Camping Foods

Did you know that many companies manufacture specialty camping foods?  This is one way to make sure that you have the best variety of items on your camping food list. You’ll find specialty foods that you can buy especially made and packaged for camping and backpacking outings.

One such company is Adventure Foods.  Adventure Foods specializes in offering a wide variety of foods for campers and backpackers alike. For example, they offer pizzas and Spanish rice over beef.  It would be very difficult to get bored with that kind of food on your camping trip!

Tips for Easy Camping Food Preparation

Monday, May 25th, 2009

If you are leaving soon for a camping vacation, you have probably already thought about bringing camping food along that will be easy to prepare. This is always a good idea because making your meals during the trip will not require you to hunch over a camping grill. There is a wide variety of easy camping food to choose from for the trip. The following ideas might interest you.

Easy Camping Food

There are nearly limitless choices for easy camping food  ideas and recipes. Using a bit of common sense, the cook has plenty of freedom with the food he or she can prepare. The Hobo Dinner is a very popular recipe among campers, and one that is so simple, a child can make it.

This easy camping food recipe calls for 4 medium potatoes peeled and sliced, ½ medium onion sliced or diced, 1 lb. ground chuck, ¼ cup water, add a dash or two of salt and pepper, and aluminum foil.

To begin to fix this easy camping food, add the water to the ground beef and then mix it together well. Next fold in the onions, potatoes and the seasoning, and mix it all together. Portion the mixture into four separate servings, wrap it up in alumimum foil, folding it with a seam up the middle.  Place the foil packet containing the mixture on a hot grill with the seam facing up.  Grill for 40 minutes. Be careful not to flip the packet, but you’ll need to rotate it every few minutes. After it’s done, open it very carefully and serve with ketchup.

Another simple and favorite camping food recipe is the Burger Boat. It’s quick to make and you only need ground beef, barbecue sauce, onions finely chopped, potatoes and carrots that are chopped into fine bits.

To begin, spread out a square of aluminum foil.  Next, take a handful of ground beef and shape it with your hands it into an oval. Take a spoon and press it down in the middle of the ground beef to make a small depression.  Fill the little well with 1 tablespoon of barbecue sauce. The sauce will marinate directly into the meat and give it a  delicious taste. Add in your vegetables, the salt and pepper, and wrap it up to cook until the are tender.

Finding the Perfect RV Camping Site

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

If you love to go camping, but always miss the comforts of home, you will definitely love RV camping. RV camping is going on a camping trip. You still get to be in a campground. It is almost like the real thing, except you get to bring your bathroom, a mattress, a kitchen, and a comfortable living room with you. Rather than setting up a tent and swatting at mosquitoes, you can spend your time enjoying the view from the inside of your RV. After you buy your RV and you are ready to leave for camping, it is important to find the perfect RV camping site for you.

Roughing It

If you want camping in the most basic way, there are plenty of RV camping sites out there to fit your needs. If you want to do some free RV camping, you may have to go outside of an RV park and stay in the forest instead. However, you will not have any electricity. Many people like this sort of an RV camping site with as few conveniences as possible. They still feel like they are camping in the traditional sense, except that they have a toilet and a bed to sleep in at the end of the day.

You can find RV parks that appear to be a little bit rougher. Some parks place a large distance between parking spaces.  In this type of RV park, you cannot see any other RVs because they are each too far away. That way you can have the peace and quiet of a forest vacation, except you will still have electricity to run all of the utilities like your stove, refrigerator, and the lights in your RV.

Luxury Vacation

If you are looking for an RV camping site that is a little bit more upscale, there are many out there just for you! Instead of a forest get away, you can book an RV campsite that is more about refined taste than roughing it. There are RV campgrounds with swimming pools and bathhouses as well as a clubhouse. Other RV campgrounds have diners and Jacuzzis. If you are willing to pay a little extra to rent a RV camping site, you’ll be able to find anything that you want. Many RV campgrounds are like small communities, so if you decide to find a high-end campground you’ll likely have neighbors you’ll enjoy spending time with while on vacation!
